For non-professionals like bloggers, business-owners, entrepreneurs and new marketers, launching a well versed, SEO optimized website is no less than a scary nightmare. Launching a well structured and SEO optimized website is quite a difficult task. However, things become worse when you are not aware of the basic strategies that can boost your SERPs on the major search engines. So, if you are amongst those novice entrepreneurs, looking ahead to successful website launching tactics, here is a well briefed article on the best website optimization points that you should consider.

Install Google analytics

Track every single page of your website and ensure that they are perfect. Install Google analytics or any other analytics system in a template that is present in every page and is placed at the bottom of the page to help users with the page load time.

Create Google and Bing webmaster tool accounts

Google and Bing, both the search engines have a range of webmaster tools that closely monitors every single activity of your website and provides it back to you as an online report. Having these two set ups for your computer is really worthy, as they can really help you boost your website’s online value.

Process a crawl simulation for your website

You may be spending hours for your website’s development, but problems like improper redirects, broken links, missing titles, etc. always creep up during the launch. As a result, it is better to check your website’s accessibility with crawl test tools like, Xenu, Custom Crawl, GSiteCrawler, etc.

Test website design with Browser Emulators

Testing the website’s design, graphics, layout, etc. in the various browsers is also an important step towards a successful website launch.

RSS Feed Analytics

On the web, every single website has a structured data that is taken up by the RSS Feeds. Similarly, you can also analyze your feed quality using software like Feedburner. As an initial trick, don’t use the counter Chicklet in your website content as it is very depressing to see no users in the feeds.

Tag important actions

Every website has a basic list of steps that users follow. These include, tweeting, subscribing to email, leaving a comment post, etc. Each of these actions is important and also recorded by the analytics. Hence, it is vital that you tag these major actions in your article.

Perform online branding and usability test

Getting a brief about your website, on how it appears and functions on the web is important to enhance the website’s impact on the web. A raw testing of your website can hence provide your users a better online experience.

Create KPI dashboard

Your website services and products are important, but not as much as their metrics. The numbers of RSS subscribers, pageviews, social stats, unique visits, etc. are metrics that help you keep an overall view of the website’s consistency and future graphs.

Create a list for business contacts and friends

Creating online business contacts and friends list can greatly help you make a huge start. Make a list of your friends who owe a favor to you or can be trusted with their work and then make a simple email asking for a pure feedback on your services. Use BCC and also become a recipient.

Create a list of bloggers, Target press and also Industry people

Once you have selected your niche, list down the names of your industry personalities, media outlets, bloggers, offline sources, etc. with their full contact information. This contact information can help you reach out to these industry personalities during your website launch for a better promotion.

Select your Google Alerts

Having alert updates is always good for your website. They help you keep a watch on your system and its scores. These alerts sometimes however show wrong figures and hence, it is better to follow the next recommendation.

Bookmark your brand tracking methods

Keeping a track of the various sites that link back to yours is quite difficult and requires a list of methods and queries being followed on a regular basis. You can include automated systems like Twitter, Google, Backtype, etc. However, these queries should make use of your brand name.

Make your subscription and email signup system

Get access of your potential customers for promoting your new services, products, etc. However, you should carefully consider when and how you should offer your services to your potential customers. You can also take help of services like EXactTarget, iContact, ExactTarget, etc.

Build your brand’s social accounts

The most powerful marketing strategy, Social media sites can help you create a strong network. Create accounts in Twitter, Facebook, Google Profiles, YouTube, Flickr, Linkedln, Stumbleupon, Reddit, etc. Also, don’t simply use the same bio in each of the accounts, rather spend time in making them look authenticate and genuine.

Link these social networking accounts

Now that you have social accounts in the major social networking sites, add your reference site to these accounts. Make sure that they link back to your to be launched website.

Create a list of selected keywords for targeting Search Engines

Select the best keywords for your niche after a thorough analysis. The best selection of keywords will help your site top the SERP.

Create targets for 12 months

Success is not achieved without a goal or target. Hence, it is important that you select goals and targets for your website for at least the first 12 months.

Sign in with KPMRS apps

KPMRS offers a list of applications that help you monitor your website traffic and features.
Hence, make sure that you sign yourself to KPMRS.

So, now that you are aware about the various important factors that you should consider for ensuring success to your website, follow them and enjoy a successful website.

Bing’s Webmaster Center Program manager, Brett Yount made an extremely unexpected comment in the Bing Forums when he recommended Digg & Yahoo buzz to boost your website’s indexing & rankings on bing.com -

If your site pages have good content, submit them to buzz and digg. Both have a high chance of getting your page indexed.

Now, ideally this does make sense because both Yahoo Buzz and Digg are popular source of latest content for search engines but why would ANY search engine share this kind of information explicitly with the SEO community and webmasters?

Whatever the reason is, I am pretty sure we will see a spike of traffic going up for both Digg & Yahoo in coming weeks!

The Official Google Webmaster Central Blog says, in a post published earlier this week, that the famous <meta name=”keywords”/> tag does not affect your search engine rankings. Google says it’s a waste of time and should be ignored. Doing this, you can actually save a dozen-or-so bytes per pageload! It has also mentioned in the post that it is possible that Google could use this information in the future, but it’s very unlikely since they have ignored the keywords meta tag for years and currently see no need to change that policy.

<img class="size-full wp-image-395 " title="Meta Tags for Web Pages" src="http://www.kpmrs.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/meta_tags.jpg" alt="Google says that it disregards the meta keyword tags in SE Rankings.
So, is there a need to keep the “meta keywords” tag or should we start removing them? Einstein had famously said “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. So is a lot!”

Lets see what bing has to say about “meta” tag on their webmaster blog? Rick DeJarnette from the Bing Webmaster Center Team writes

The <meta> tag’s keyword attribute is not the page rank panacea it once was back in the prehistoric days of Internet search. It was abused far too much and lost most of its cachet. But there’s no need to ignore the tag. Take advantage of all legitimate opportunities to score keyword credit, even when the payoff is relatively low. Fill in this tag’s text with relevant keywords and phrases that describe that page’s content.

In fact they have given special instructions on how you should form your meta keyword terms.

When creating keyword text, remember the following:

Choose words that may be secondary keyword terms (save the primary keywords for use in the <title> and <meta> description tags), and even include a few, commonly seen typographical errors of primary keywords, just for good measure.

Limit your keyword and key phrase text, separated by commas, to no more than 874 characters.

Don’t repeat a keyword more than 4 times among the keywords and phrases in the listl

That leaves us in a fix. Google Vs Bing. Who should we go with?

Google, which has more than 65% of market share in the search industry.

OR

Bing, which was recently reported as fastest growing search engine.

My personal opinion would be that you should keep meta keywords tag and populate a couple of your most targeted keywords while making sure that you DO NOT overstuff it. This means you are adding not more than 100 bytes of data in your web page which will take less than few milliseconds to load. Plus Google never said that this will have negative impact so there is no harm. And since they left it open that their policies may change in future which means, if they do, you do not have to start filling in again. You will be already prepared. And at the same time, you are following the guidelines by Bing and making sure that your web page is optimized for that as well.
